Caution: This product is safe on all vehicles. More technical info… What is the value of a Premium Differential Service? The differential, or gearbox, is a unique environment for fluid to survive. A thin film of oil protects the engine because there are areas of metal-on-metal friction. The engine components, such as crankshaft, piston rods, cylinders, etc, are engineered with tolerances that allow them to move freely with a thin film of oil separating and lubricating them. In the gearbox however, there is metal-on-metal friction. This friction produces high heat and wears on components. What happens to the fluid is called "sheering". This is when the oil molecule gets literally sheered in half as a result of the heat and friction. Once the fluid sheers it no longer provides proper lubrication. SelTec® Gear Additive improves the sheerstability of the fluid. In other words, it will withstand more heat and friction than the fluid would be able to withstand on its own. The additive improves thermal stability, which is critical to the survival of the fluid. It also reduces foaming to provide better lubrication. Air entrapment is a problem in differentials - the air causes foaming, which impedes lubrication to all components. Water is another problem in differentials. It is common to get some moisture into the differential. Once water has entered and mixed with the fluid, it becomes corrosive and dilutes the fluids lubrication quality. The SelTec® Gear Additive will prevent pitting and damage from water. The pour point of differential fluid is also very critical. When the temperature drops to below freezing, the fluid thickens and does not provide full lubrication until the temperature of the fluid rises from the friction caused by the metal-on-metal contact of the components. Substantial wear can occur during the cold start phase. SelTec® Gear Additive lowers the pour point of the fluid. SelTec® Gear Additive also improves shifting characteristics in manual transmissions, especially in cold weather. This is mainly due to the lower pour point. Only half the tube is required in the manual transmission.
